Urban Wildlife Short Stories

The following short stories were written by Dr. Rob Marshall in 1999 for the Northern Beaches Journal. This boutique magazine gained a cult following for its artistic design and interesting articles depicting life around the beaches of Sydney, Australia.

Prior to writing these articles, Dr. Marshall would discuss possible birds of interest for the stories with famed artist Bruce Goold, who is represented in all major public galleries in Australia. Bruce would then be inspired to created a hand-painted linocut image after hearing the story. These beautiful linocuts will soon be available for order through this web page. Bruce is currently working on a large Waratah triptych for the Sydney Town Hall collection.

Enjoy the stories and artworks!

The White-bellied Sea Eagle - Is it the timeless beauty or the stupefying spiral of soaring eagle that makes us stop and stare?

The Coo-ee Bird - The conspicuous call of the eponymous Coo-ee bird - a migratory forefather of the notorious black cuckoo - is part of the Peninsula beach culture.
